Poo poo!

So I have started reading up on potty training, and one thing that seems to be really important is to start familiarizing your child with the "potty" so it doesn't scare them when you actually start the potty training process. So, I've been setting Cody on the potty and reading to him, just to get him used to sitting there for a little bit. And I've started trying to point out to him that that is where we go "poo poo" and "pee pee". And, well, we've been letting him watch Steven go to the bathroom from day one, so he's used to seeing that. So, already he is saying "poo poo" right before he goes poo poo. One time he even pointed at the bathroom when he said it. Kind of crazy! I've put him on the toilet a couple times, and even though he doesn't actually go, he goes through the motions. He makes grunting noises, then pulls off a piece of toilet paper, wipes, then gets off and flushes the toilet. Then, I help him wash his hands. Since I want to instill this important step into his routine, I make sure he does it EVERY time he goes pretend potty, but it gets a little old when he wants to go through the motions like 3 or 4 times in a row. Anyway, he's sure acting ready to start the process, but I really would like to wait until he's two to really start training him because I heard that if you start too soon, it could make it all that much harder. So...anybody have any pointers? Fun stuff!!

Apparently in the 1950s 90% of children were potty trained by 18 months. I tried to start early with Holden, but he has not progressed quickly. Hudson started pooping on the toilet almost a whole year before he would pee on the toilet. I say if he acts ready just go with whatever he is willing to do. Good luck.

Wish I had some good advice, but I'm not there yet. Sounds like you're doing great. Who know's he could be ready, he sounds interested. My sister had her son potty trained by 2 years. You could always try, with no pressure and see what happens.

Id run some water for Kyla to help stimulated her to want to pee. Thats how I first got her to use the potty. (I noticed shed always pee right before bathtime when I was running the water) I figure if it helps old people (rest home trick) it might be useful for babycakes.

I have never heard someone say "fun stuff!!" in relation to potty training before! From everything I have heard, the key isn't the age, it is the interest. So I say go with however interested he is for now! I am so jealous. Tyler still wants nothing to do with it.

No advice. T was three and a half and trust me we tried every method under the sun. They'll do it when they want to and I have STUBORN kids. If he wants to now, LUCKY YOU!!!

I see nothing wrong with it. Peys was done early, like 19 months, but she would have done it earlier. I just didn't because everyone said to not rush so because she was so young I didn't. I WISH I WOULD HAVE. If they are interested go for it!

I'm with Iliana, they will do it when they want to. Mckinley wanted to go potty at 18 months but I wasn't ready. She was potty trained by 2 and never had an accident. Brayden was 2 1/2 and we still have occasional accidents. It's wierd how kids are so different. Good Luck:)
